Anthony Basti, 74, of Binghamton, passed away at his home on Friday, November 16, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Clara Basti, his sisters Felicia Svoboda, Dolores Gross, Laura Gill, Rosita DiIorio and his mother-in-law Palmina Rinaldi. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Frances and their dog Carmine, daughters, Claudine Basti Uccello and Clarice Basti Hamme, son-in-laws, Joe Uccello and Dan Hamme, and three grandchildren, Sofia Uccello (11), Giana Uccello (8), and Aiden Hamme (5) who were his pride and joy. He is also survived by siblings Nicoletta Giorgio, Peter Basti, Nicholas Basti, Carmella Hranek, Madeline Schrader, and Anita Tino, brother-in-law Frank Rinaldi, sisters-in-law LouAnn Liner and Mary Maher, many nieces and nephews, former wife and friend Jacqueline Basti, an abundance of friends, and his cousin, partner, and confidant Albert Nocciolino. Born on September 9, 1944, Tony grew up on Conklin Avenue with his eight sisters and two brothers. He was the baby boy, number ten out of eleven children. Family was everything to him. He loved having the entire family together for Sunday dinners, celebrating birthdays, and hosting holiday parties. He graduated from Binghamton North High School in 1964. He was a very good athlete who loved playing baseball and basketball. He had a love for music and dancing. He loved sports, especially the Yankees, he enjoyed hunting and was an avid golfer but his favorite pastime was tending to his garden. In 1983, Tony opened Uncle Tony’s in downtown Binghamton. He was the proud and successful owner/operator for over 30 years. Since then he has been called “Uncle Tony” by all who knew and loved him. Through his business relationships and longevity in the community, he formed long lasting friendships that will endure the test of time. Tony was a loving brother, uncle, godfather, husband, father, grandfather and friend who lived life to the fullest. His presence in our lives was and always will be one of humor, love, and loyalty. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday November 24th, 2018 at 9:30am at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 147 Main Street, Johnson City, New York 13790. Following the mass there will be a funeral procession to Calvary Cemetery, 501 Fairview Street, Johnson City, New York 13790.
