Elizabeth had an interesting life, born during the depression era, being raised in an orphanage, she was very concerned with the poor and their needs. Thus the years volunteering with the CHOW pantry and St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen. She also was a material buyer for Philadelphia Sales traveling to NYC by train. She worked as a waitress in her younger years in Greene for the Ludy family who were very good to her.
She also served in the Army as a WACS, working in the medical field which led her to nursing school and her employment at Binghamton General & Wilson Memorial Hospital and finally retiring from Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital where she made many friends.
Nana so enjoyed the warmer months where she could be found working outside in her flower and vegetable gardens from dawn to dusk. In the winter months she would be outside removing the snowfall.  She loved her daily walks where she met many kind neighbors.  Being very active for her age she really did not like the fact that she could not drive again. She was a very determined woman in that she wanted to do everything herself and often refused the neighbors’ offers to help.  She especially appreciated and was very grateful to Paul (Furlong) and Rick (Furiosi) for their continual help over the years.
During her daily walks, she enjoyed her neighborhood conversations  with Paul & Rick, Jill, Jeannette & Bob, Wade and family, the Weyant family , the Stenta family & with those neighbors she met along the way.  Also Dom her mail carrier, she so enjoyed talking with you. She also enjoyed watching the NY Yankees, and eating halupke and pierogi from the local churches.
Nana was a devout parishioner all her life and was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church. She so appreciated the visits from Sister Lucia and staff from Pastoral Care.  She enjoyed attending Saturday masses with her church friends, Don & Joanne, Bonnie, Mary, and Jeanne and those at the 7:30 am Sunday masses.
The family would like to acknowledge the caring and compassionate care she received from all the providers and staff at Binghamton General Hospital especially the Emergency Department, Krembs 6 (rehab) , the Dietary staff, and most recently all the staff at Good Shepherd Fairview Rehab & Wellness.
We are also so very grateful to Dr. Daniel Chin for giving our Mom extra years to strive for with his respectfulness and caring for the elderly. Dr. Bhandari and staff, thank you for your humor, she enjoyed her visits.
In lieu of flowers, Elizabeth would like those who wish to kindly consider donations in her memory to St. Mary of the Assumption Church.
At her request there will be no formal calling hours.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Church (Court Street) on MONDAY September 18, 2017 at 9:30 am. The family will receive friends and relatives from 8:30 am until 9:30am prior to the mass.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband Samuel at the Slovak Catholic Cemetery Riverside Drive JC following the mass.
“May she forever rest in peace surrounded by God’s love.”
