Joseph Yanuzzi Obituary

Joseph C. Yanuzzi, 85, passed away Monday, March 5 after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Sadie, his wife, Helen, his sisters Angie Rogers and Marie Dellacorino and brother Frank Yanuzzi.  He is survived by his daughter, Karen Reardon (Kevin) and son Joe (Julie); his grandchildren, Susan McDonald (Jeff), Joe (Christen), Kevin Reardon, Matthew Reardon (Rachel) and Johnny Reardon; five great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.  Joe was born January 12, 1933 in Binghamton, NY. He graduated from Binghamton Central in 1950 and enlisted as a Medic in the Air Force.  Following the Air Force, Joe worked at CAE-Link for 35 years and retired in 1991. After retiring, Joe was a Binghamton YMCA member for over 20 years and maintained a six day a week fitness routine.  For the last two years he continued a 2-hour a day cardio routine at his residence until the day he fell ill. Joe was an avid sports fan and loved the NY Yankees. Joe called balls and strikes for over 40 years as a member of the Binghamton Umpires Association. Joe was awarded Umpire of the Year in 1993.  Joe retired from umpiring after 2011, but in 2012 came back as he was hand-selected to work the plate for the Wounded Warrior Softball Game. Joe cherished his many friends and routinely gathered with them. Joe was devoted to his family.  Words cannot express the amount of love he had for his family.  His family and friends know him as the kindest and most generous person in their lives. Any person fortunate enough to meet Joe knew how wonderful he was.  Joe will be greatly missed and always loved.  Family will receive friends at Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 137 Robinson St, Bing. NY on Thursday, March 8 from 4:00-7:00pm.  A Funeral Mass will be Friday at St. Mary's of the Assumption Church at 37 Fayette St, Bing. NY at 9:30am.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors.   In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Joe's memory to the YMCA 61 Susquehanna St. Binghamton, NY 13901.
