Welcome to the memorial page for

Joyce W. Kritkausky

June 14, 2017

Joyce W. Kritkausky, 92, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2017 in Middlebury, Vermont.  Joyce was born in Binghamton, N.Y. on July 27, 1924, the daughter of Inez and Asa Wall. She was a life-long resident of Binghamton, and only recently re-located to Vermont to be near family while recovering from a stroke.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Dr. Anthony Kritkausky. She leaves an extended family including a brother, sisters, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whose photos adorned her house and whose welfare was her life-long occupation and focus. Those who knew Joyce as a friend, or even only casually, will remember her as a mothering figure who brought them small gifts, food, cold drinks, and snacks as they did maintenance work near her townhouse or crossed paths in daily life.

Joyce was fully active and engaged until very recently. She was determined to maintain a youthful outlook and lifestyle even as she entered her tenth decade. Her auto license plate, JWK 039, reflected her often humorous defiance of aging and her determination to be a life-long learner and optimist. She has inspired us with her life, and also with the dignity of her death.

She loved seeing movies or reading books and discussing them. Local, national, and global news were part of her daily interactions and connection with the world around her. Bridge with a group of friends was her joy. Many will remember her for shared time on the golf course or tennis court.

One of her final wishes was that a fund would be created for students interested in the fields of medicine or health care. Honoring this wish, a fund is being created to help Binghamton students pursue such careers. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Anthony R. and Joyce W. Kritkausky Memorial Fund. Contributions may be sent to Randy Kritkausky, 278 North Rd, Whiting Vermont 05778.

A memorial service will be held for Joyce on Saturday July 22 at Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church, 44 Main Street, Binghamton NY. Family calling hours are at 11 am, a service is planned for 11:30, followed by a reception on the premises.
