Alma Florence Hunt

Alma Florence Hunt, nee Robbins, our beloved mother and devoted wife to her late husband, passed away at her home on December 13, 2025.  She was born at home to Charles Ellis and Mary Alice Robbins on April 12, 1929 in Dallas, Luzerne County, PA.

Florence was predeceased by Walter, her husband of 66 years, her daughter Sharon Spencer, son-in-law George Jones, grandson Dusty Oakes, and great grandson Connor Brown.  She was the youngest and last surviving member of her birth family of five brothers and seven sisters. 

Our mother was a fierce competitor when playing ten-point pitch, pinochle, and dominoes.  She enjoyed beating her children and grandchildren, and had no mercy on anyone.  She often told stories about the Robbins family band with her dad on fiddle, Ida on piano, Clyde and Charlie on guitars, Perky on harmonica, Russ on the juice harp, and mom on the squeezebox. Mom also played piano, guitar, harmonica, and piano accordion, and had a lovely singing voice. 

Mom had many stories from her youth, including  attending a one-room schoolhouse (playing hooky occasionally), her adventures growing up in the country, and having to walk everywhere she wanted to go.  Even though her parents weren’t able to give her Christmas or birthday presents or other material things, to her they were the best parents in the world who gave her a wonderful childhood.  

Mom was a dedicated Yankees fan, and loved watching the games with her late daughter, Sharon.  She was a loving, fun mother and grandmother, always ready to pack a picnic for a day at any of the state parks that our dad decided to drive to that weekend, or to jump on a toboggan with her grandkids.  

Florence is survived by her children, Walter (Edilu) Hunt, Carol Jones, Donna (Jimmy) Hendren, Sandi Cross.  Also survived by 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren, her dog Lucy, and cat Pepper.    

   Her family was everything to her, she was the world to us, and she will be unbelievably missed. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025 from 4pm to 6pm at the Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 137 Robinson St. Binghamton.  A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10am at the funeral home.   Burial will follow at 1pm in Mt. Zion Cemetery Harding, PA.
