Catherine L. Richards, 91, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024, with family by her side. She is survived by her loving, dedicated husband of 71 years, Ernest Richards and her children Thomas Richards (Sharon), Susan Gabriel (Charles) and Sharon Snyder (Donald) and her grandchildren (Amy, Tonya (Patrick), Erin (Greg), Charles (Lisa), Dennis (Christa), Emma (Randy), Abigail, Chace) great-grandchildren (Megan, Jordan, Mackenzie, Connor (Taylor), Nicholas, Zachariah, Isaac, Aria, Teagan, Levi) and great-great-grandchildren (Arabella, Giovanni). She is also survived by her honorary daughter and granddaughter Penny (Dave) and Kara Smith.
She is predeceased by her father John “Jack” and Mother Eva Craig. Sister Iris (Carl) Liner, brothers Harold (Helen) Craig and Lester “Butch” Craig. She is survived by sisters Ann Lauer, Connie Weist, Pauline (Thomas) Torrance, Sr. Jean Marie Craig, Geraldine Craig and many nieces and nephews who meant so much to her.
She was a long-time member of the Women’s Auxillary, American Legion, Post 1645. After her retirement from Cook Brother’s Trucking, Catherine thoroughly enjoyed traveling, bowling, eating at every restaurant in town, playing bingo, sitting on her front porch watching the birds and clouds and spending time with family and friends. Up until her last days she ran everywhere she went, she could never be slowed down, and she would always speak her mind, often soliciting fits of laughter from her family and friends. She was instantly friends with everyone she met and will be missed by more people than we can count.
The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the staff at Good Shepherd Fairview Nursing Home, Wilson Emergency Department and Wilson Main Tower 3 for the compassionate and nurturing care they provided both her and our family.
The family will receive friends at Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home on Thursday September 5, 2024, from 4 PM to 6 PM, 137 Robinson St., Binghamton. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 AM, at St. Paul’s Church, 282 Chenango St., Binghamton. Entombment will follow at Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
