Concetta “Connie” Russo Capani
July 6, 1938 – May 12, 2026
Concetta “Connie” Russo Capani, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on 05/12/26 at the age of 87.
Connie was predeceased by her husband, Phillip Capani; her parents, Angelina “Angie” and Paul Sherwood; her father, Dominick Russo; and other beloved family members who welcomed her home.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Andrea Capani; her cherished grandchildren, Liam Alexander (Kendra) and her great grand daughter, Oaklynn Marie; Colin Alexander; and Michael Alexander. Connie also leaves behind her loving siblings, Frank Russo (Jan), Charlotte Ciotoli (Joe), and Paula Turner, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
A lifelong resident of the Binghamton area, Connie dedicated much of her life to faith, family, education, and service to others. She was an active and devoted member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, where her faith guided the kindness and generosity she shared so freely with everyone around her.
Connie was widely known for her charitable spirit and community involvement. She was an active member of the Women’s Abruzzee Social Club, served on the Lourdes Auxiliary Board, supported Mom’s House, and participated in the Fatima Club. Her commitment to helping others reflected the compassion and warmth that defined her life.
As a teacher in the Binghamton City School District for many years, Connie touched the lives of countless students and formed lifelong friendships with colleagues who shared her love of travel, golf, bowling, and laughter. Those friendships remained a treasured part of her life.
Connie will always be remembered for bringing people together. Her home was filled with the aroma of her beloved Italian cooking, lively conversation, and the warmth of family and friendship. Whether preparing cherished family recipes, celebrating her Italian heritage, or sharing Sambuca with neighbors and friends, Connie created lasting memories for all who knew her.
Above all else, Connie’s greatest joy was her family. Her grandchildren and great-granddaughter were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Her love, strength, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family will remain a lasting legacy.
Connie’s family will forever cherish the many lessons, traditions, and love she shared. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 4pm to 6pm at the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 137 Robinson St. Binghamton. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 10am on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Binghamton. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, The Danielle House, Mom’s House, Shriner’s Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
