Cynthia Filetto Obituary

Cynthia Hunt Filetto of Binghamton, NY passed away unexpectedly June 27, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Norwich, NY, she was predeceased by her parents Robert and Dorothea (Macrie) Hunt, and her in-laws Frank and Theresa (Pompeii) Filetto.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Frank Filetto Jr, her children Anthony (Jessica) Filetto and Lia (Michael) McGinnis; her grandchildren Oona, Adeline, Marisa, Isadora and Alaina. Her siblings Robert (Wendy) Hunt and Constance Rhodes, Sister in-law Nancy (Ken) Schimpf, as well as her beloved aunts, cousins, and nieces.

After graduating from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, she taught art education for 38 years, 30 of which were with the Binghamton City School District. She was highly admired for her commitment to the Rod Serling School of Fine Arts, Odyssey of the Mind, NYSATA and the Scholastic Art Show. She took great pride in the success of her students in both the Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate art courses.

Cyndy enjoyed teaching, painting, pottery, gardening and volunteering. She was an active member and former officer of the Stella D’Argento Lodge #1916. She recently began volunteering at the Community Meal at United Presbyterian Church of Binghamton. She looked forward to annual vacations at the shore and frequent trips to galleries, Broadway shows and museums.

Cyndy touched the lives of so many people and will be dearly missed by all. She had many close friends that she treated as family. She loved seeing and catching up with her former students. Her children were her pride and joy. Most of all she loved to be surrounded by her grandchildren, whom she both cherished and adored.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of Wilson Hospital Intensive Care Unit for their kind, compassionate care during this difficult time.

Visitation will be held at Saint Patrick's Church on July 2nd, 2026 from 9:30-11:30am, followed by a funeral mass and burial.
