David grew up on the west side of Binghamton, NY. He loved music and playing his guitar and became an excellent musician. Upon graduation from Binghamton Central High School class of 1967, he attended Berklee College of Music. After several years, he returned to Binghamton and was employed by Binghamton University until his retirement.
David was predeceased by his parents Muriel and Julius Lewis and his sister Helen. The Lewis family owned and operated the Dave Lewis Shoe Market in downtown Binghamton for many years.
David was also predeceased by his friend and partner Maria Teresa Romero. They shared in the joy of her daughter’s family; Camila (Alex) Chappelle and beloved granddaughter Paloma, who reside in France.
He is survived by cousins Sarah Rosen of Valhalla, NY and Arlene Gavanther of Waverly, PA.
Keeping active both mentally and physically was important to Dave. He took many courses at Binghamton University and participated in a meditation group. He enjoyed bike rides and swimming. Being a kind, caring and environmentally conscious person, David generously supported many conservation and community charities.
He will be greatly missed by his high school buddies and other friends.
A service will be held at a later date.
