David Spicer Obituary

David died peacefully on March 22, 2026 at the NYS Veterans Home at Oxford.  Born in 1935 in New Berlin, NY to Elbert and Margaret Spicer, he worked at the family’s grocery store, played 3 sports and was a trumpet player for New Berlin High School through his youth.  He enlisted in the United States Army, serving as Honor Guard during the Koran Conflict.  His GI Bill in hand, David received his BS and MS at Oneonta State.  After teaching in Rotterdam NY for two years, he accepted a position as principal for Windsor Central Schools, initially at Windsor Elementary then moved to the newly opened C.R Weeks school for the next 34 years until his retirement.
David was predeceased by his parents, Brother Robert, sister-in-law Janet and brother-in-law David as well as many great friends and colleagues.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years Diane (Ackerman) Spicer, daughter Karen (Mark), son Scott (Sean), grandsons David (Julia), Micheal (Kelly) and great grandsons William and Luke.  He is also survived by his sister Faye Brennan of Dacula, GA, his brother-in-law Richard Ackerman of New Berlin, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the care and compassion shown by the staff at the NYS Veterans Home at Oxford with special thanks to the Maple Unit Staff.  The Honor Walk escort for David by the staff and his fellow residents was incredibly moving and appreciated.

We would also like to express our sincere thanks to his fellow Zion Episcopal parishioners (his pew mates Bob and Cindy DeMarmels), the proprietors and staff at Remliks, his helpful golfing buddies, Jerry, Mike and Jim, (who took him out last July to hit a few), his colleagues and friends from C.R. Weeks school and his kind and helpful neighbors, especially John McNulty and Tina Kress.

Calling Hours will be held on Saturday March 28 at the Thomas J Shea Funeral Home, Inc., from 4:30 to 6:30 PM.  A remembrance service will be held at the Zion Episcopal Church, Windsor on Sunday March 29 at 10:00 am.  Please send any memorial/remembrance contributions to Zion Episcopal Church, PO Box 85, Windsor NY 13865.
