Donald "Ducky" Segrue Obituary

It is with sincere sadness that we announce the passing of Donald “Ducky” Segrue, who was born on August 27, 1940. Ducky was the youngest of ten siblings born to John and Genevieve (Ryan) Segrue and grew up on the Eastside of Binghamton, a place he always held close to his heart. In addition to his parents, Ducky was predeceased by his siblings Billy, Regina, Margorie, Rosemary, James, Gene, and Bobby. He was the son-in-law of the late Duane and Hazel Button.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jean “Jeana” (Button) Segrue, and his devoted children: Kathleen (Thomas) Davis, Teresa (Chris) Ruf, Gary (Nichole) Segrue, Daniel (Cory) Segrue, and Jeremiah (Jen) Segrue. He was a proud grandfather to thirteen grandchildren: Nate (Blair), Riley, Gabby (Dan), Karlton (Soyun), Ramsey, Dalton (Charlotte), Thomas (Lucy), Jacqui (Nate), Miah, Reardon, Sydney, Sophia, and Rosemary. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Callum and Lillian.

Ducky is also survived by his Irish twin, Marilyn (Charles) Newton, and his beloved brother, Eddie Segrue, and sisters-in-law Carolyn Hoyt and Brenda Crowley. He leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews, as well as his four Godchildren: Reno Syron, Shelly Evans, Billy Savage, and Pete Wood and life-long friends Neil and Linda Bloodgood and Pete Sr. and Shirley Wood.
Ducky and Jean were fortunate to travel together, including trips to Ireland (“Old Sod”), Mexico and Nova Scotia. They enjoyed wintering in Myrtle Beach. Together, they built a life they loved in Kirkwood, NY.

Ducky was deeply devoted to his family and spent many years coaching youth sports for his children, a role he took great pride in. He loved supervising his family’s DIY projects, and showing them how to complete tasks the right way (“Ducky’s way”).
Ducky was a loyal member of LIUNA Local 785 (formerly Laborers Local 7) for 61 years, a committed member of St. Mary’s Parish, and rose to be a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. In 2014, he was honored to receive the Medal of Immaculata from the Diocese of Syracuse for his dedication to the Catholic Church.

Those who knew Ducky knew him as a hardworking, passionate man, who was proud of his Irish heritage. He was an avid supporter of the Boston Red Sox and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He continued the Segrue family tradition of frequenting their favorite Eastside establishment, House of Reardon.
His unique personality leaves a void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. Sláinte, Ducky.
