Donna Sablich, 76, of Johnson City passed peacefully surrounded by family on February 6, 2023, after a 5-year courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her husband Dan and parents John and Frances Williams. She is survived by her children Kevin (girlfriend Mary Jo), DJ (Sheri) and Lori (Tim) DelMedico, her sisters Diane Gates and Judy Deane and best friend Rose Gorey. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren Grace, Vincent, Caroline, Maria, Brady, Blake, Addie and Owen. She had many dear friends who she considered her extended family. Donna was born in Binghamton in 1946 and resided in Johnson City since 1974. She graduated from Binghamton High School in 1964 and worked as a hair stylist, bookkeeper and finally as the assistant in the Teacher’s Center at Johnson City High School.
A busy mom who always supported her children with their sports, music, and hobbies, she felt it was important to volunteer and was especially active with the JC Little League and numerous booster clubs. Donna loved to cook and was known for making terrific holupki! Also known for her cake decorating skills, she was a cake boss with family and friends requesting her decorated cakes for birthdays and other special occasions. She loved polka music and could be seen living it up with her husband at dances as a member of the Czechoslovakian Moravian Club and the Polka Paraders. She was fond of Cape May, enjoying vacations there with her family.
She had no greater joy than spending time with her grandchildren, often traveling hundreds of miles to watch their respective sports, drama and music activities. Her faith and family were always her priority; she set a terrific example by living her values.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the amazing nursing staff on NT2 at Wilson Hospital, Dr. Harris, Debbie Schaffer and their staff with Broome Oncology and Dr. Rashid and his staff with Radiation Oncology for their special care and compassion.
