Dr. Leslie Franklin Major, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend joined our Lord on September 5, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a man of values, honor and integrity. He loved and served his country as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy. He married his soul mate, Ann Marie (LaMarca) and they shared 38 happy years together. He was the cherished father of Nicole Wood (David), Anton Major (Kerri), Nathan Major (Christine) and Nicholas Major. He was the adored grandfather of Alexandra and Shelby Stocks, Emily and David Wood, Bella Major, Lucas and Eleanor Major. He was the beloved brother of Dr. Edward Major (Sharon) and Pamela Major Poetzl (Herbert) and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
His work as the Director of Behavioral Health at UHS Hospitals advanced the psychiatric care available to the people of the Southern Tier. During his tenure, he worked to implement the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program at Binghamton General Hospital bringing emergency services to those in crisis. As a physician, researcher and professor of psychiatry, his work contributed to the National Institutes of Mental Health and Upstate Medical University's Clinical Campus. Dr. Major's tireless effort revolutionized mental health care in our community and left a lasting impression on four decades of future physicians.
