Emily Jaen Goodspeed – A Life Well Lived
Emily Leal was born May 25, 1943 in Walton NY to Ernest and Hilda Leal. She died Emily Jaen Goodspeed March 21, 2025. In those 82 years, Emily experienced adversity, adventure, and always love.
Emily grew up with her two older siblings, Joan and Ron, and her younger sister Donna. All the siblings developed an inner strength that they carried their whole lives.
While in nursing school, Emily met doctor Jose Jaen MD, who was doing his residency at the same hospital. Emily and Jose were married in August 1963. They had three children (Enrique, Joseph, and Jarrod), 5 grandchildren (Narayan, Reyna, Erin, Edgar, and Landon) and 2 step grandchildren (Casey and Sally). After 26 wonderful years together, Jose passed away in August 1989.
While single, Emily’s adventurous spirit bloomed. She traveled Europe, Africa, India, and Asia. Despite challenges along the way, Emily always kept her head up, rolled with the punches, and made new friends.
Emily married Morris Goodspeed in September 2000. Moe’s children Diane, John, Maureen, and Sharon welcomed Emily into their families. Emily became grandmother to Michael, Mathew, Jillian, Dylan, and Joseph. She celebrated the arrival of 12 great-grandchildren. Moe passed away in December 2018. Emily was deeply honored to be a Goodspeed.
Emily loved to travel, but most of all she loved the people in her life. She was truly blessed to be surrounded by so many people who loved her. When it was time for her depart on her last journey, she knew she had lived a good life.
Come celebrate the life of Emily Jaen Goodspeed. She loved bringing people together.
