Eugene P. Coddington

Eugene P. ”Gene” Coddington, Sr, 90, of Kirkwood, N.Y.,  passed away surrounded by family, Saturday October 19, 2019  at Willow Point Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 41 years, Rita Heck Coddington and two grandsons, Matthew and Vincent Thomas, parents Edward and Veronica Coddington, brothers John, Edward, Joseph and sister Mary.  He is survived by his seven children Rita Longo, Eugene Coddington Jr,, Regina Brewer, Patrice (George) Thomas, Anne (Bob) Lawrence, Kathleen (Jose) Vélez, Christine (Roy) Stiefel, 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by a sister Carolyn DeFalco, a brother-in-law Richard (Helen) Heck, and extended family Maura and Kevin Jamba and Frank, Bev, Jason and Bill Christensen.  Gene was an active member for 62 years of the Laborers International Union of North America Local 785 , Knights of Columbus, German Club and a volunteer fireman for the Five Mile Point Fire Department.
Gene was a devoted and loving husband, a supporting, caring and compassionate father and a proud grandfather and great grandfather.  He was a caretaker of family and friends.  If there was a need, Gene was there to fill it.  He was so very proud of his family’s accomplishments and never went anywhere without expressing something they had done. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Kirkwood, NY and St. Paul’s Church in Binghamton, NY.  Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2pm until 4pm at the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 137 Robinson St., Binghamton, NY 13904.  Burial will be private. 
One of Gene's proudest accomplishments, shared by his family, was that he had become sober and lived a life of sobriety for 27 years.
