Gene Hulbert Sr., Binghamton, NY, 84, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born on November 14, 1937 in Binghamton, NY where he lived, loved and worked his entire life. He was predeceased by his parents, Ray and Jean Hulbert and his sisters Audrey Ellsworth (Binghamton, NY), Theo Carley (Maine, NY), June Linehan (Binghamton, NY), and Judy Willsey (Fenton, NY).  He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Judy Hulbert (Green)and their children Brenda Kimble (Terry) of Castle Creek, NY, Marcia Schaefer (Chris) of Sparrowbush, NY, Gene Hulbert Jr. (Lorrie) of Binghamton, NY, and Raymond Hulbert (Leslie) of Kirkwood, NY, his grandchildren Alex Smith (Michelle) of Endicott, NY, Jordan Smith (Madison) of Conklin, NY, Kaitlin Hulbert of Los Angeles, California, Jamie Tichenor (Sam) of Lakewood, Colorado, Timothy Hulbert of Burlington, Vermont, Taylor Palmer (Tom) of Apalachin, NY, Gillian Hulbert (Andrew) of Binghamton, NY and CJ Schaefer of Sparrowbush, NY, and his great-grandchildren Adryanna Smith, Evelyn Tichenor, Liam Smith, Wilder Tichenor and Elias Smith.  He loved his family, travelling, the outdoors, showing national champion beagles, lighthouses, and his shepherds Travis and Jeter.  He attended Syracuse University, graduated from Wanakena Ranger’s School and worked as a professional land surveyor for 53 years.  He was an active member of NYSAPLS, STALS, ACSM well into his retirement, and his community with the Boy Scouts, girls softball and local politics.  He co-founded Hulbert Engineering and Land Surveying, a family owned business, where he worked with his sons, daughter, and grandchildren.  After his retirement in 2007, it gave him a great source of pride to continue to daily work along side his family.
The family will receive visitors at Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 137 Robinson Street, Binghamton, New York on Thursday January 20, 2022 from 5 to 7 PM followed by a funeral service at 7.  A private family burial ceremony will be held on Friday January 21, 2022 at Maine Memorial Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association.
