Francesco DiRado, 87, of Binghamton, NY went peacefully into the arms of his Lord on June 25, 2023. He was born in Casacanditella, Abruzzo, Italy to the late Antonietta and Aquilino DiRado. He grew up in Italy, arriving in his second home, America, in 1950. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Samuele, Armando, and Ettore, sister Maria D’Amore, brother-in-law Ralph Stento, and sisters-in-law Rosetta Tuttle and Maria DiRado. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Michelina, beloved daughters Antoinette, Linda, and Rita (Jeff Thorn), cherished grandchildren Alexander and Carolyn Schaefer, brother Camillo, sisters-in-law Antonietta, Malfisa, Mary Ann, Annette Stento, brotherin-law Roberto D’Amore, and numerous loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, the Men’s Abruzzese Social Club, and the Bricklayer’s Union. He worked as a mason for over 45 years in the Binghamton area, taking great pride in doing his job well, and many in the business knew and respected him and his work. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. His joys in life were spending time with family and friends, gardening and sharing the bounty with all, cooking and dining with loved ones, seafood of every type, playing bocce with his crew at Otseningo Park and at the yearly DiRado family reunions, winters in Florida, and watching wrestling and westerns on TV. Francesco loved big and was deeply loved. He was a man of honor who had the love and respect of many and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 28th at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 37 Fayette Street, Binghamton, NY, with visitation beginning at 9:00AM followed by a funeral mass at 10:00AM, then an entombment at Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City, NY. Arrangements are in the care of Albert J. DeMarco with the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME, INC.
