Obituary

G. Ted Tedino passed away unexpectedly at home Saturday evening, March 18, 2023. Ted is now reunited with his parents, Flo and Hoover, and his sister-in-law, Maria Tedino. He is survived by his sister, Angela and Jim Solinsky, his brother Tommy Tedino, nieces, Jessica and Craig Morton, Kristin and Stephen Boyd, Cassandra Tedino, Tressa Tedino, nephew Tiano Tedino and fiancé, Maggie Ross, grand nieces and nephews; Avery, Zachary, Walker and Quinn Morton, Carter Boyd, Demarco and Lucio Tedino; and many relatives in the Tedino, Stento, Caporaso and Stenta families. Ted retired from the City of Binghamton, was a member of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church, Binghamton Sons of Italy Lodge #487, graduated from BNHS (’71) and BCC, and served in the United States Navy. He was the founder and chairman of the Teddy’s Invitational Tournament that was first a basketball tournament, then transitioned to a golf tournament. Last year was the 50th anniversary since being founded at his indoor basketball court in the family garage at 196 Conklin Avenue. Working with family, friends and local businesses, this social sporting event brought together lifelong friends on Memorial Day weekend and raised thousands of dollars for local charities. In September of 2012, the committee started a Women’s Golf Tournament that established an annual scholarship at SUNY-Broome for female students in the nursing, business and engineering programs. In addition, Ted enjoyed the annual Army vs. Navy football game (Go Navy), baseball, basketball, music, juke boxes, playing drums, comedy and classic movies (loved Myra Loy); and was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the University of Kentucky Wildcats. Always quick with a funny one-liner, there are many hilarious stories and good times many of us had with Ted and he with us. We will remember and draw upon them whenever we need a laugh. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Church on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 9:30am. Burial will be private in Calvary Cemetery. Donations in Ted’s memory can be made to the Teddy’s Golf Tournament Scholarship for Women at SUNY-Broome (made payable to BCC Foundation).  Mail to BCC Foundation, PO Box 1017, Binghamton, NY 13902. Please note Teddy’s Golf Scholarship on your check.
