Gary T. Layton

Gary Thomas Layton, 67 passed away peacefully on December 17, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born in Binghamton, New York to the late Francis R Layton and Beverly J Higgins. Those he’ll also meet in heaven include his sister Susan Cady, brothers Paul and Bobby Layton. Niece Sherry Lackey Layton and nephew Paulie Layton. A proud father. He is survived by his five sons George (Jenna) Layton, Scott Layton (Melissa Powell), Todd Layton (Skye Lewis) Cody (Sarah) Layton, Nick Layton (Liz Labarre), and his daughters Sarah Layton (Derrick Criscitello), Shannon Gabriel (Thomas Gabriel). His brothers and sisters Linda (Dennis) Michielson, Nancy Layton (Ken Huff), Michael (Karen) Layton, Roger (Monica) Layton, Tyna Layton and Bev Layton. Gary leaves behind twelve beautiful grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and many other special family and friends. A man's best friend his two dogs Lux and Cali. He was a hardworking man and great provider for his family. Gary was a construction laborer for over forty years and a skilled tree surgeon. No tree was too tall! Gary had a love for nature and the outdoors. He was the most sincerely altruistic person with no attachment to material things. The true measure of a man is how much love he gives. How selfishly he shares whatever he can to help others. How consistently he lifts up those Around him with a kind word, or funny joke, a compliment, a humble ear or the very shoes on his feet. By this measure Gary was unmeasurable.The love he spread on this earth Continues to grow and live on, and that is the ultimate measure of any human being. On behalf of Gary and the Layton family we would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the staff at Lourdes hospice for your loving and compassionate care during dad’s final days. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 8th from 11Am to 1PM with a service to follow at THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 137 Robinson St. Binghamton, NY 13904.
