Gerald “Jerry” Brislin passed peacefully April 10, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jerry was born on December 2, 1940 to Eugene and Catherine (Norton) Brislin. He was raised on the East Side of Binghamton with his sister, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Jerry attended St. Paul’s School, graduating with the class of 1960.
Jerry served in the US Army Reserves from 1963-1970 traveling to summer camp each year to either Fort Dix, NJ, or Fort Devin, Mass.
Shortly after high school, Jerry began a career with the City of Binghamton that lasted over thirty-seven years. While with the City, he worked in the Departments of Parks, Parking Ramps, and Public Works, retiring from the Building and Shops area.
In 1963, Jerry was joined in marriage to the love of his life, Rose Marie (Skinner) at St. Paul’s parish. This was a union that began over 57 years of happiness. While his children were young, Jerry was active in the East Side Youth Association. A man of tremendous faith, Jerry was a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 206, and a lifelong member of St. Paul’s parish, having served on many committees over the years. Jerry was a diehard Yankee fan, and enjoyed many trips to the Bronx with family to watch games. Jerry often boasted that he saw the Yankees play in all three stadiums.
Jerry is predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Catherine Brislin, his sister and brother-in-law Maureen and James Skinner, and his brother-in-law Bro. Bob Skinner C.S.S.R. The most precious thing to Jerry was his family and he will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Rose Marie Brislin, daughter and son-in-law Kathleen and Dennis Lange (Binghamton), daughter and son-in-law Carol Ann and Tim Heller (Chenango Bridge), and son and daughter-in-law Shawn and Jennifer Brislin (Oneonta). Jerry was extremely proud of, and shared special relationships with each of his grandchildren, Matthew Lange (Binghamton); Emily Frystak (Jesse), Montrose PA; Connor Lange, Binghamton; Kelsey Wallach (Spencer), Chenango Bridge; Kerry Heller, Chenango Bridge; Bryan Heller, Chenango Bridge, and Caitlin and Dylan Brislin (Oneonta). Jerry is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered April 14, 2021, at 9:30am at St Paul’s Parish, Chenango Street, Binghamton, NY, with Rev. Gerald Shantillo (Jerry’s Godson) officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 North McKinley Ave., Endicott, NY 13760. The family wishes to thank the staff and administration of Mercy House for the care and support they provided Jerry in his final days.
