Graydon "Denny" Smith Obituary

Graydon Dennis Smith, “Denny,” 79 of Binghamton, NY passed August 17, 2022 with his loving family by his side during his brief and courageous two week battle with a terminal illness.  He was predeceased by his father, John Graydon Smith and his mother Jane Elizabeth Smith. Denny is survived by his partner of 15 years, Sandra Savage; his son Gerald (Pam) Smith, daughter Christine Smith; his grandchild Jesse Burnardine; many special family members of Sandra’s who were like family to him; and life-long friends. Denny will also be missed by Varmit, his beloved cat who laid by his side and spent many days with him in his “goaty-goat-garage.”  Denny also had a childhood dog he named Jeff.  Denny often spoke of Jeff, who he referred to as the “Best Dog Ever.”  We imagine his reunion with Jeff was special and worth the wait.
Denny enjoyed spending time in the summer at his camp up on Cayuga Lake; he loved his cars.  His 55 Chevy and Jeep Scrambler were his favorites.  He and lifelong friend Dick Whitten spent many hours working on cars in his garage.
Denny was a successful business owner, an avid hunter, fisherman, expert bowler, Yankees and Giants fan.  He also enjoyed racing and spoke often about his trip around Pocono Raceway at 170 MPH. Denny had an incredible knowledge of sports and his memory was very sharp.  There wasn’t much Denny couldn’t carry on a conversation about.   All of those who knew and loved Denny will miss his captivating stories.
Please join us for a celebration of life at Relief Pitcher, 197 Conklin, Ave, Binghamton, NY 13903, on Sunday, September 11th, 2022 from 2-6pm.
