Helen R Schum (O’Dell)

August 20, 1939 – November 10, 2024, Age 85

Helen passed away with her loving family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years Frederick W Schum Jr, her parents Evelyn (Haupt) and Otto O’Dell, siblings Sherwood O’Dell, Kate Allington, Claude O’Dell, and Edna King. She is survived by her children Frederick W Schum III (Suzanne) and Jane M Strauss (Raymond), grandchildren Frederick, Emily, Kayla Schum, Amanda Kleinsmith (Gregory), Connor and Sabrina Strauss, siblings Alice Ellison and John O’Dell, many nieces and nephews, and many dear friends she thought of as family.

Helen was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her favorite activities were all things involving her family and supporting them in whatever way she could. She loved and looked forward to her antiquing trips with friends as well as gatherings to catch up with family, friends, and classmates at reunions.

Helen was a graduate of Troy High School in Pennsylvania and of Arnot Ogden School of Nursing. She worked as an OR Nurse at Wilson Hospital prior to having children. After which she took great care and pride in raising her children and taking care of her family. She also worked alongside her husband at the family-owned business of Hulbert Electrical Inc.

The family would like to thank the Campville Fire Department EMS and UHS Home Health Care for their care and compassion for Helen.

Visiting hours will be held at Thomas J Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 137 Robinson St., Binghamton, NY on Friday November 15, 2024, 5-7 pm. A graveside service at Chenango Valley Cemetery will be held on Saturday November 16, 2024, 10 am.
