Irene P. (Kuchta) Pitel

Irene P. Pitel, 94, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 27, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband, John J. Pitel, parents, Michael and Mary Kuchta; brothers and sisters, Mary Warmouth, Sophie Aston, Pauline Kufta, William Kufta, Anna Kufta, and Wilhelmina Dancho. She is survived by her loving children, David (Peg) Pitel, Vestal, N.Y. and Diane (William) Cullen, Hyde Park, N.Y., grandchildren, Amy (Will) Manvell, Binghamton, Matthew Pitel, Johnson City, John (Laura) Cullen, Watertown CT., great grandchildren, Aiden and Ellah Manvell, Binghamton and several nieces and nephews.

Irene was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 1254, 1st Ward Senior Center and St. Paul's Church, Binghamton, where she volunteered at their clothing bank. She worked at Philadelphia Sales then later at Ansco Corp. where she was an expediter. Irene loved being an at-home Mom raising her 2 children. She enjoyed sewing clothes and costumes for her family as well as doing alterations for others. Her favorite pastime was traveling and gambling at the casinos in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Tampa and Tioga Downs.  Texas Holdem was her game.

Visitation will be held at the Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 137 Robinson St., Binghamton on Wednesday June 2nd from 4-6 pm.  The funeral service will be on Thursday, June 3rd starting at the funeral home at 9am proceeding to mass at 9:30am at St Paul’s Church. Burial will follow at the Slovak Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene’s name, to St Paul’s Church, 15 Doubleday St, Binghamton NY, 13901.
