Jan Wayne Kliewer, 75, of Binghamton, NY, passed away on November 1, 2022 after an extended illness. Jan was born on December 16, 1946 and was the third of six children. He is predeceased by his parents, Lawayne and Delma Kliewer, and his older siblings, Leanne and David Kliewer. Jan is survived by his children, Kristin Gleeson and Jonathan (Tera) Kliewer; three grandchildren, Kayden and Brenna Gleeson, and Sasha Heath; siblings, Steven (Amy) Kliewer, Bonnie (Ron) McCall, and Lee (Colleen) Kliewer; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; his companion, Shirley Mills, and Pastor Luke Beattie. Jan graduated from Binghamton North High School and then served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Jan was musically talented and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Baptist Bible College and a Master’s Degree in Musical Performance from Binghamton University. Over the years he served a number of churches as choir director, including his current church, Main Street Baptist Church in Binghamton, NY. Jan was also active for many years with the Tri-Cities Opera and other smaller musical groups, including the choral group Melliphony. Jan retired from the NYS Department of Labor and prior to that was employed by the Tioga County Department of Social Services. His hobbies included golfing and miniature train sets. At Jan’s request, there will be no services. An expression of sympathy in Jan’s memory may be made to his church, Main Street Baptist Church, 117 Main Street, Binghamton, NY 13905.
