Jo-Ann M. Jensen, 79, of Binghamton by way of Susquehanna, Pa., passed away gently at 11:11 a.m. May 14.
Jo-Ann is survived by children Stephen Jensen (Nicole Elder), Cathleen Carroll, Christine Jensen-Roberts (Dan Baisden), and Matthew Jensen (Leslie Jensen). She’s also survived by grandchildren Roberto Jensen and Graciela Jensen and their mother Helga Frohlich Jensen, Makenna Carroll and Jordyn Carroll, Donald Roberts III, Haley Jensen, Emmet Jensen and Elliot Jensen, as well as great-grandson Macklen Jensen Carroll. Jo-Ann is also survived by Floyd Mead (brother), Dawn Truskolaski (sister), Donna Confer (sister), and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jo-Ann was pre-deceased by her husband of 44 years, Robert E. Jensen Jr. She was also pre-deceased by two gentlemen who loved her very much, Robert Kohut and Edward Egan.
Jo-Ann had a long and distinguished career with Broome County Child Protective Services. In retirement, she was devoted to - and enveloped by - the lives of her grandchildren, but she always had time for more, most notably her closest friends Big Lil and Midge, Moi, Agnes, Val, Bill & Shawn Moody, and so many more.
Jo-Ann was a member of the Elks Lodge in Kirkwood and she was secretary for the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary. She was also a member of St. Mary’s Church of Kirkwood. She was ever-present in her own children’s musical, athletic and social activities, and she was a constant muse for them all. She was not a good singer. She was an equally bad pianist. Neither fact deterred her.
She loved Willie, cardinals, butterflies, pigs and turtles, Tioga Downs, the New York Football Giants, Bobby the Cat, everything Susquehanna, and the Red Oak’s peanut butter/chocolate pie.
Calling hours are 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home. A funeral service follows. Interment will be at 10:30 a.m. the following day at North Jackson Cemetery outside Susquehanna, PA
