(Lois) Jo May (Shott) Ives 1934 - 2024 North Carolina, formerly of Conklin – Jo May peacefully passed away on December 26, 2024, at the age of 90 surrounded by her loving family. Her great sense of humor helped her to meet her medical challenges this past year.
Jo May was born in Amagansett NY and spent most of her life in the Binghamton area. She graduated from Broome Community College where she met the love of her life, Paul Ives. She was an employee of The Town of Conklin for many years including faithfully serving as Town Justice for 20 years. She was a member of: Trinity Memorial Church, Conklin Kiwanis Queens and the NY State Magistrates Association. She will be remembered for her quick wit and her ability to always put the needs of others above her own. She greatly enjoyed performing numerous weddings while serving as a justice.
Jo May is survived by her two daughters, Susan (John) Hartman of Leland NC and Paula (Gary) Simpson of Brambleton VA; grandchildren, Alex Reardon, Kathryn and Bryan Hartman; step grandchildren, Jennifer Hartman, Tyler and Kevin Simpson; step great-grandchild Loris Norella; brother James (Nancy) Shott; sister-in-law Grace Ives and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years Paul and her parents James & Lois (Black) Shott. Special thanks to the angels of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, that cared for Jo May and allowed her to pass away peacefully at home.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 4 until 6pm at the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME INC. 137 Robinson Street Binghamton, NY 13904. The funeral will be held on January 18, 2025, at 1:00pm at Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare of Wilmington NC or Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church.
