John J. Boushie, 79, entered into the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 20, 2024, surrounded by his wife and his girls. He left this world the same way he lived his life: with stoic strength, pure love, humor, and unimaginable integrity.
For over 57 years, John was a devoted husband to the love of his life Nancy (his “Nan”); father to Jennifer (Joel) Bennett, Michelle (Robert) Sexton, and Jaclyn (Scott) Bombard; and, “Pops” to Jonah (Kesondra & great granddaughter Kennedy), Jesse, and Jaylen Bennett, and Ethan, Jonathan, Christian, and Ryan Sexton. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Mable (Exware) Boushie; brother Gerald (Sandra) Boushie; sisters Helen (Joe) Shramek, Betty (Big John) Henehan, Arlene White, Marjorie (Sanford) Anderson, and Jean (Thomas) Manna; and several dear family members and friends.
John graduated from Windsor Central High School in 1964 where he made several lifelong friends and was part of the infamous football season where the Black Knights were undefeated, un-tied, and un-scored upon. He remained a lifelong fan of Windsor athletics and arts, and especially took pride in watching his children and grandchildren on the stage, court, and field.
He was the embodiment of hard work and a proud member of the Local Union 112 brotherhood for 42 years as a pipefitter and business agent before retiring in 2005. He enjoyed serving as a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. His heart to work carried on in retirement as he meticulously tended to his (and others’) property, gardens, and home. Those who knew him were likely blessed by his selflessness. He truly had a heart of gold.
John was a colorful story teller and brilliant jokester – the life of every party. Rugged, but with a soft heart. An adventurer, outdoorsman, and traveler. A generous provider and true gentleman. His laugh and smile were infectious and will be remembered fondly.
What brought him the most joy was precious time spent with his family for meals and game nights, being a superfan at his grandchildren’s sporting events, gathering for a fire on the deck, and travel all over the country. John especially cherished time camping at Little Wolf Lake in the Adirondacks where his rich family history was tangible to us all.
He will be missed beyond measure, but we rejoice in the promise of eternal life and for the hope of reuniting in heaven.
Our entire family would like to extend our most sincere gratitude for the compassionate care John received by each member of the Seton 1 staff, respiratory therapy team, and the Palliative Care Coordinator at Guthrie Lourdes.
Please join us on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at St. Mary’s in Kirkwood, NY for calling hours from 9 – 11AM followed by a funeral mass at 11AM. A private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family will be setting up a scholarship in John’s name for Windsor Central School District students pursuing a career in agriculture, forestry, or the building trades.
