John Wayne Crawford

John Wayne Crawford, 76, of Owego, NY was called by the Lord on May 6, 2025, at Mercy House of the Southern Tier in Endicott, NY.  

Wayne was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Nancy Jeanne Crawford, his parents John B. and Cleone Crawford, and his in-laws Francis and Dorothy Morris.  He is survived by his sister Diane (Ron) Ackerman, his children Julie VanHart, Lynn (Kenny) Lichtl, Carrie LaVere, John F. (Emily) Crawford, eight wonderful grandchildren, one beautiful great-granddaughter, six beloved nieces and nephews and brothers-in-law Jerry (Alice) Morris and Dan (Sue) Morris.

Wayne taught high school business and computer subjects for over 40 years at Candor Central School.  He worked with the Rifle Club, coached the school Rifle Team and those students that competed in the state rifle competition, as well as coaching football.  Outside of school, he was a partner in a construction business, a scout leader, taught CPR classes, and coached youth league soccer, girls softball and little league.  He and Nancy loved attending their children’s sporting events.  In their spare time, they distributed food to the needy.

At his request, there will be no formal funeral and a private burial will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing can make a contribution in his memory to the Mercy House of the Southern Tier.
