Karen A. Howard (née Hartung), 73, passed away on February 18, 2026, at Good Shepherd Fairview Home in Binghamton, New York. She was born on March 11, 1952.Karen was a graduate of Wells College and a longtime employee of Crowley Foods, where she dedicated many years of hard work and commitment. Following her retirement, she continued to serve her community through volunteer work with various charities and organizations, reflecting her generous spirit and care for others. An avid traveler, Karen especially enjoyed her annual trips to Europe, where she created lasting memories and embraced new cultures and experiences. A devoted member of St. Andrew’s–St. John’s Church in Binghamton, Karen found strength, friendship, and purpose in her faith community, where she was a familiar and caring presence for many years. She is survived by her son, Michael Howard of Pleasanton, California, and his wife, Jennifer Zaccardi; her two sisters, Denise Hartung and Michele Piraino, both of Rochester, New York; her loving nieces; and her three beloved grandchildren, Evan, Stevie, and Oliver, who brought her immense pride and joy.
A visitation will be held at St. Andrew’s–St. John’s Church in Binghamton on Saturday may 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. A private burial will take place following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Karen’s memory.
Karen will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, and lifelong dedication to her family, her church, and her community. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched.
