Karl G. Bernthon, 72 of Conklin, NY passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023, surrounded by family and friend Kenny Kitchen. He was born in Sayville, NY on October 13, 1950. Karl graduated from Susquehanna Valley High School in 1968 and joined the U.S. Navy in 1970. As Karl would tell you he was the best helmsman on the USS Voge. He met some longtime friends John Saaybe and Steve Sumstad while he served in the Navy. He is predeceased in death by his father, Roy Bernthon, mother, Sonya Stevens and stepfather, Carl Stevens, his Aunt Florence Bernthon and his partner of 30 years Louise Podhayski. He is survived by his stepchildren, Stanley (Stacey) Podhayski, III, Crystal Podhayski (Mike Marcello, Jr) and his son Jason (Nicole) Bernthon. Grandchildren, Joseph (Halie), Marley, Kyra, Lexi, Callie, Anthony and Dominick. Nephews, Jeremy and Justin and niece Brooke and a brother. Karl was a devoted Yankees fan and loved going to watch games at the stadium. He worked at Pepsi for fifteen years and after he left Pepsi, he worked in the car business till a few years ago.
Military Honors will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 3:00pm at the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 137 Robinson St. Binghamton. Visitation will follow the service from 3pm to 5pm at the funeral home.
