Lawrence H. Underwood, Sr.

Lawrence Husted Underwood Sr., 83, passed away on June 12, 2024, in Binghamton, New York. Born on April 6, 1941, in Olean, New York, he was a man of many talents and interests, widely respected in his community. Lawrence honorably served in the Navy from 1960 to 1964, spending his years aboard the USS Graham County. His time in the military was marked by a dedication to service and a deep camaraderie with his fellow sailors. Following his military service, Lawrence embarked on a diverse career path. He worked as a machinist and a general contractor and was a former semi-truck driver. His work ethic and versatility in his professional life were admired by colleagues and friends alike. An avid outdoorsman, Lawrence enjoyed fishing and hunting, activities that not only brought him peace but also connected him with nature. His artistic side was expressed through leather work, painting, and gardening. Lawrence was also known as an all-around craftsman, always eager to take on new projects and share his skills with others. 

Lawrence was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Underwood, his parents, Husted and Helen Pinney, and son Larry. He is survived by his sister - Lois Chapman- children- Lawrence Underwood Jr., Angela Rohde, Martha Sanner, Bonnie Underwood, and Don Underwood - grandchildren- Magnolia, Violette, Lilla, and many more. His family remembers him as a loving father and grandfather, whose guidance and affection shaped their lives.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 from 10am to 11am at the Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 137 Robinson St., Binghamton, NY 13904.  Burial will follow at 11:30am in Windsor Village Cemetery with Military Honors. 

The community will remember Lawrence for his generous spirit, commitment to his family, and his service to the country. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
