Madelyn Potts Obituary

II Corinthians 5:1-For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

Madelyn Dawn (Matuszak) Potts (age 75) left her earthly home for her heavenly home on November 28, 2022, to meet her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ face to face. She fought a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer for the last five years. Many doctors and nurses said she was a miracle and their hero. Because of her faith she was a testimony to those around her through it all. She was predeceased by her husband David L. Potts, her infant son David John, her father John B. Matuszak (when she was only 8 years old), her mother Madeline Wagner, and her stepfather Wade Wagner.

She is survived by her two beloved sons and their wives, Timothy David (Kelly) Potts and Matthew Paul Potts (Lisa) and her cherished grandchildren Chelsea, Evan (Libby), Emily, and Caleb, Megan, Zachary, and Joshua, and her beautiful great grandchildren Kynslee Rose and Benjamin David. Also surviving are her sister Sherry (Donald) Freer, sister Val VanHouten (George), brother Richard (Gail) Wagner and her cousin Mary Adams who was like a sister, husband Charles, and son Christopher. She had many special nieces and nephews one being Amy (Steve) Bronson.

She had a host of many wonderful friends who cared deeply for her especially her church family from First Baptist Church of Vestal including Pastor Mike and his wife Dolly and their daughter Chrissy and granddaughter Nancy.

Madelyn worked as a secretary in various places over the years but most recently and for the last twenty years as the secretary/bookkeeper for Chenango Valley Cemetery. She had a wonderful rapport with her colleagues in the funeral industry and for the families and clients she served.

Although she enjoyed all her work her best times were spent with family and friends on many outings and visits laughing and talking.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Lourdes, Wilson, and General Hospitals. A special thank you to Lourdes Hospice and nurses Hannah, Sandy, May, and Courtney for their incredible care and advice. Special appreciation goes to Jennifer Sullivan and her team at Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home for their help and friendship with Madelyn.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2022, from 3pm until 5pm at the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME, INC, 137 Robinson Street, Binghamton, NY 13904. Madelyn loved flowers and they will be an integral part of her funeral.

II Timothy 4:7-8-I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
