Margaret Lane Obituary

Margaret (Peggy) F. (Guy) Lane, 93, of Binghamton, NY and Boston, MA passed away peacefully on January 20, 2021.  She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Richard P. Lane, her parents Elizabeth (Betty) and Francis (Frank) Guy, her sisters Elizabeth Noonan and Barbara Stephens, her brother Robert Guy, her brother-in-law Leo (Darb) Noonan, her son-in law Daniel L. Miller, her daughter-in law Arlyne Lane, her cousin Eleanor Maume, dear friends Mary (Sissy) Quinlivan and Patsy Norris as well as many close friends and members of the Guy and Lane families. 
She will be missed by her devoted children Richard J. Lane (Eileen), Michael R. Lane, Barbara J. Miller, Catherine A. Leonard, and Maureen E. Lane; her beloved grandchildren Daniel P. Miller (Debra), Patricia A. Gutchess (David), Nathan P. Leonard, Siobhan M. Lane (Jay), Allison M. Lane, and Andrea E. Lane; her adored great-grandchildren Luke J. Miller, Jake D. Miller, Jane C. Gutchess, N. Hatcher Gutchess, W. Bode Gutchess, and Brannock A. Miller; several nieces and nephews; treasured friends Jeanne M. Fahey and Kathryn R. Connerton as well as the surviving members of “Club” (Theresa Whalen and Mary Ann Giblin).
Peggy was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Church and a graduate of St. Paul’s High School.  She worked for the City of Binghamton for more than 30 years, finishing her career as secretary to Mayor Juanita Crabb.  Peggy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary (1645), the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), a booster of the Marshfield COA Senior Center and several golf leagues.  She also volunteered at St. Paul’s Church at the Clothing Bank and the Funeral Luncheon program.  All her life, Peggy delighted in family gatherings and spending time with her life-long friends in “Club”.  She was a fervent fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. Peggy also enjoyed walking, swimming, the beach and a good Manhattan.  The family is most grateful for the kind and loving care Peggy received at Good Shepherd Fairview Home over the last 2 years with a special thanks to Brenda, Jen, Christa, Gabby, Abbey, Ellen, Steven and numerous other caregivers across the GSF organization. 
Calling hours are at Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 137 Robinson Street, Binghamton on Sunday, January 24th from 4-6 pm.  A Funeral Mass in celebration of her life will be held at 9:30 am on Monday, January 25th at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 282 Chenango Street, Binghamton, NY. All Covid-19 regulations will be followed.  The Mass can be viewed on www.sheafuneralhome.com/obituaries/Lane.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Peggy’s memory to the St. Paul’s Food Pantry (15 Doubleday Street, Binghamton, NY 13901) or Mercy House of the Southern Tier (212 N.
