Maria A. (Carroll) Barnhart

Maria Ann (Carroll) Barnhart born in Binghamton NY, age 75, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, at Mercy House of the Southern Tier, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on January 7, 1951, Maria dedicated her life to caring for others. She worked for many years in a career in nursing care, where her compassion, kindness, and gentle spirit touched countless lives. She was known for being humble, hardworking, generous, spiritual, and fiercely independent. Maria faced life’s challenges with strength and determination, always preferring to do things her own way and maintaining her independence for as long as possible. Her resilience was something her family admired and respected.

Above all else, Maria loved her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her greatest joy came from spending time with those she loved and watching her family grow through the generations.

Maria deeply loved her only son, Frederick, and was incredibly proud of him. Family meant everything to her, and she cherished the relationships she shared with her granddaughters. Whether through daily phone calls, words of encouragement, or simply checking in, Maria remained a constant source of love and support. She valued staying connected with those she loved and never let a day go by without letting her family know they were on her mind.

One of Maria’s greatest joys was being a great-grandmother. She absolutely adored her great-grandchildren, Ayan and Avaun, and loved every moment she spent with them. They brought immeasurable happiness to her life, and she spoke of them often with pride and affection. Nothing made her smile more than watching them grow, celebrating their accomplishments, and creating special memories together. Her love for them was endless and will remain a lasting part of her legacy.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, William Carroll and Anna DeOrazio-Carroll; her brother, Charles Carroll; and her brother-in-law, Richard Foley.

She is survived by her loving son, Frederick Eugene Paige (Veronica Lee); her granddaughters, Macy Nichole Woolfolk-Holloway (Jaquawn Holloway), Ila D’Astrii and Sammasia Wilson; her cherished great-grandchildren, Ayan Holloway, Avaun Holloway, Lily Wilson and Isabella Wilson; her sister, Rachelle Carroll-Foley; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, many cousins and dear friends.

Though our hearts are broken by her loss, we find comfort in the memories she gave us and the love she leaves behind. Her legacy of kindness, strength, independence, and devotion to family will continue to live on in all who knew and loved her.

In keeping with Maria’s wishes, arrangements will remain simple and centered on family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor Maria’s life, share memories, and celebrate the love and joy she brought to so many.
