Mark P. McGinley Obituary

Mark P. McGinley, 61, of 5 Mile Point, Kirkwood, N.Y. passed away at home on October 8, 2018. Mark was born on December 18, 1956 in Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, N.Y. to Leo Anthony and Anne Marie (McCawley) McGinley.  The family relocated to Five Mile Point, N.Y. from Susquehanna, Penn., when dad Leo became principal of Floyd L. Bell School in 1957.  Mark inherited his musical talents from his mother Anne, who was a music teacher within the Windsor School District, and he played guitar with the church group at St. Mary’s in Kirkwood. He especially loved Irish music, enjoying both the chords and the words.  Mark graduated from Windsor High School in 1975 and attended Broome Community College and Harper College.  Mark first enjoyed a strong career in sales and later earned a Masters of Social Work from Marywood University, applying those skills through his work at the Broome Developmental Center. Mark spent his dash (the years between birth and death) as a big-hearted, compassionate, animal-loving person. His fun-loving personality drew him into many memorable, spirited adventures whether he was climbing through underground cities in Kapadokya, Turkey, visiting Angel Falls or enjoying his day-to-day here in Binghamton.  He enjoyed traveling to places such as Greece, Turkey, and Ireland and was always happy to return to his beloved pets.  Mark is survived by his sister Jane (McGinley) Bernier and her husband James T. Bernier of Amelia Island, FL, brother Michael McGinley and his wife Kathy of Ardmore, Penn., nephew Nate Cheal and his wife Sheryl of Mansfield, Mass., niece Sarah (Bernier) Yazici and her husband Cem of Winchester, Mass., and their sons James and Zeki, niece Regina (McGinley) Wintz and husband Jimmy of Ardmore, Penn. and their sons James and Gavin, nephew Michael McGinley and his wife Andrea of Woodbury Heights, N.J. and their daughter Elise, and his many McCawley cousins.  Mark leaves behind his beloved animals, dogs Sadie and Max and cat Nikki. A Memorial Mass will be offered at 10am on Saturday October 13, 2018 at St. Francis of Assisi Church Binghamton, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Broome County Dog Shelter and Camp Barkalot (110 Cutler Pond Rd, Binghamton, New York 13905) http://www.gobroomecounty.com/shelter
