Maureen Fury Obituary

Maureen (Hannon) Fury, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on July 28, 2025 after a life marked by compassion, adventure, and deep connection to others.
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Moe moved with her family to Binghamton, New York at the age of five, where she grew up surrounded by her eight siblings. She was one of nine children born to Eugene and Mina Hannon and is survived by her loving sisters: Kathy Cox, Pat Hannon and Lee Benedict, Mary, Maxine, Jean and Bob Kittle, Ellen, and Colleen. She was predeceased by her brother, John Michael.
Moe was the proud mother of two children, Christopher and Elizabeth, and the adoring grandmother of Alanna, Oliver, Case, Cade and, Patrick. She also leaves behind many cousins, a niece and 3 nephews and, dear friends whose lives she touched with her warmth, generosity, and humor.
Her work life was defined by a deep sense of service and care for others. She spent over a decade at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY, serving in several essential roles including Director of Transportation and Concierge. Later, she brought her compassionate spirit to her work with individuals with special needs at ARC and within the public school system—work that she truly loved.
Moe lived a life rich in experience, moving across the country and making every place she landed feel like home. After graduating from Binghamton High School, she lived in California, Connecticut (where her son was born), Montana (where her daughter was born), Ohio, Virginia, Washington and various parts of New York. Through each chapter of her life, she built strong communities and formed lifelong friendships, a testament to her openness, loyalty, and unshakable spirit.
For the past 15 years, she returned to her roots in Binghamton, where she became a cherished member of the Binghamton Chapter of the Moose and received her College of Regent Degree and NYS "Novice" Coworker of the Year award. She was also a proud 22-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Hartwick, NY, before later joining the Binghamton American Legion Auxiliary Post 1645.
Moe will be remembered for her boundless compassion, her radiant heart, her ability to make others feel special, and yes—her signature visors, which became as much a part of her personality as her generous spirit.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Guthrie Hospice and UHS Home Care for their compassionate care, support, and kindness during Moe’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to American Legion Post 1645.
Funeral services will be held at Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home, 137 Robinson Street, Binghamton, NY 13904 on August 10th. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 p.m., prior to the service at 3pm. Immediately following, a Celebration of Life will take place.
