Michael Connell Obituary

Michael P. Connell, age 69, passed away on June 19, 2024, in Vestal, NY. He was born on June 18, 1955, in Binghamton, NY, and was a lifelong resident of the area and a cherished member of his community.

Michael, affectionately known as Mike, Mikey (by a cousin or two), or "Duck" by some, graduated from Chenango Forks High School before attending SUNY Morrisville. His career spanned 43 years at BAE Systems and its predecessors, where he was respected for his dedication and commitment to excellence.

Mike was known not only for his professional achievements but also for his personal passions. He created and managed popular websites dedicated to Section 4 Football and his beloved Chenango Forks football, which became vital resources and beloved by many across the Southern Tier. His meticulous research and dedication to these sites showed his love for the game and his community. He was an avid tennis player in his early years, and a big fan of the Michigan Wolverines and the San Diego (now LA) Chargers.  Additionally, Mike played a significant role in promoting the popular singer and recording artist, Jewel, at the start of her career, contributing to her early success and popularity. He even had the pleasure of introducing Jewel on stage once.

His unique personality and sense of humor were evident in how he celebrated life's milestones, often noting special occasions like someone's 10,000th day of life or teasing about certain milestones such as turning 40. Mike was a loving son, a great brother, and a faithful friend who enjoyed helping others and making connections online.

He is survived by his brothers, Peter (Carol) and Dean, his niece and nephew (Jennifer and Paul) along with one aunt (Eva) and several cousins. He loved his niece and nephew greatly and enjoyed keeping in touch with them. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Dino and Irene Connell.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no memorial or funeral services, although the family may plan for a remembrance get-together in the coming months and will work to notify family and friends of the event with some advanced notice. The Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home in Binghamton, NY, is assisting with arrangements.

Mike's legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the lasting contributions he made to his community. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
