Michael R. Meagher

Michael R. Meagher, 78, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 30, 2023.  He is predeceased by his parents Roger and Mary Meagher, brother and sister-in-law James and Norma Meagher and granddaughter Katherine Meagher.  
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife CeCelia (Maragus) Meagher; children Jennifer Meagher-Sullivan, Stephen (Kristi) Meagher, Lisa (Frank) Matonis; the granddaughters he cherished Madeline and Elizabeth Matonis; brothers-in-law Nick (Sharon) Maragus, John (Anne) Maragus; sister-in-law Julia Koulikas; lifelong friends Bernie and Sydney Leshinsky; many nieces, nephews and best friend Rosie, his English Bulldog that never left his side. 
Mike was the proud owner and operator of the Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home, Inc.  A longtime member of St. Paul’s Church; the Catholic Diocese of Syracuse awarded him the 2018 Immaculata Award for his extraordinary service and support of St Paul’s Church. He was a Veteran of the US Army; member of American Legion Post 1645, St Paul’s Mens Club, Knights of Columbus and Broome County Board of Realtors. 
He was a supportive father who loved watching his kids play sports, enjoyed spending time at his cottage at Forest Lake, vacations at the beach, sitting in the recliner with his dog and spending time with his granddaughters.   
He was known for his quick wit, creative gift giving, appreciation for a good meal and his generosity. 
We would like to thank the staff at Wilson Emergency Department and Wilson North Tower 4th Floor who helped us through a very difficult few weeks, along with his physical therapy team, Molly, Alyssa and Cara who kept him moving and took great care of him for the past 7 years.   
The biggest thank you is to our funeral home family and their families who have helped and supported us in so many ways. We appreciate you all. 
A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 10am on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at St. Paul’s Church in Binghamton.  The family will receive friends on Monday from 4pm to 6pm at the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 137 Robinson St. Binghamton.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Mike’s memory.
