On April 8, 2020, our family lost a special man, Michael T. Durkot, who passed away at the respectable age of 88 years young. Born October 14, 1931 to Kathryn (Oborzuts) and Michael M. Durkot of Rusyn/Slovak heritage. Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were his brothers Gerald and Jack, and sisters Helen (Antos) and Mary. His early years found him helping at the family owned Durkot’s Restaurant at 58 Clinton St. and playing baseball for the North High Indians as their star shortstop. Mike served his country from 1952-1954 as a photographer in the United States Army. Afterwards, in 1956, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from R.I.T. with a major in photography. His love of photography and nature was an enduring part of his life, second only to his belief in the New York Yankees.Mike was one of those special individuals who, to be in his gentle presence, made you just feel good. Rest in peace Mike. Thanks for bringing kindness to the world. Michael will be buried with his family at Holy Spirit Cemetery.
