Morris D. Goodspeed Obituary

Morris (Moe, Morey) D. Goodspeed, 86, of Binghamton, NY and Bonita Springs, FL, passed away December 10, 2018.  He was predeceased by his parents, Glenn and Elizabeth Goodspeed; his first wife, Rosemary King Goodspeed; and daughters, Mary (infant) and Sharon Goodspeed.  He was a loving husband to Emily Goodspeed; a wonderful father to Diane and Mike Bobal, John Goodspeed, Sharon Goodspeed, and Maureen Maerkl; the best grandfather to Michael and Chelsea Bobal, Matthew and Carly Bobal, Jillian Bobal, Dylan Maerkl and Kelsey Giordani, and Joseph Maerkl; and adored great-grandfather of Sophia, Josephine, Maximilian, and Louis Bobal. He is also survived by step-sons; Enrique, Joseph and Jarrod Jaen and he served as a much-loved Grandfather to their children, Narayan, Reyna, Landon, Erin and Edgar.  Important in his life were his in-laws, Donna Kilbury, Ronald and Erika Leal and his longtime friend John Russell. He graduated from Binghamton North High School and attended Ithaca College before being drafted into the US Army to fight in the Korean War. He retired with 30+ years from the US Postal Service.  He served on the board of Horizons Federal Credit Union for many years and was a member of NARFE. He enjoyed yelling at the TV while watching the NY Mets and the NY Giants (often turning off the TV before the end of the game). He loved playing golf, traveling with Emily, tending to his flower gardens and doing crossword puzzles. Although he was dealt many heartbreaks throughout the years, he was always pleasant, personable, kind and caring to everyone, including family, friends and coworkers. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday, December 18, 11:00 am at St. James Church, 147 Main St., Johnson City, NY. There will be calling hours Monday, December 17, from 4-6 pm at Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home Inc. 137 Robinson St., Binghamton, NY.  Burial will take place at a later date at Glen Castle Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: Catholic Charities of Broome County 232 Main St., Binghamton, NY 13905, or to Mercy House, 212 North McKinley Ave, Endicott, NY 13760.
