Nicholas "Nick" Buccasio, a kind and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family and friends. A proud lifelong resident of the Binghamton area, Nick left a lasting legacy through over four decades of dedicated service to his community, showcasing both his professional expertise and musical talents.
Nick graduated from Columbus School in 1948, Binghamton North High School in 1951, and Binghamton University in 1961. He began his career as a Certified Public Accountant in 1961, earning his CPA credential in 1964. Throughout his career, he was a partner at Davidson, Buccasio, and Updyke, and later served of counsel with Piaker and Lyons. Known for his professional excellence, Nick was a trusted advisor who demonstrated a keen attention to detail and genuine care for his clients.
A passionate musician, Nick played the trumpet throughout his life, performing in the Binghamton area alongside his father and sister, Verna. His love for music led him to be an active member of Local 380 of the American Federation of Musicians.
Nick honorably served during the Korean Conflict at Governor’s Island, where he performed with the First Army Band, including a memorable performance of "This Is The Army Mr. Jones" on The Ed Sullivan Show, where he met actress Jayne Mansfield—memories he cherished and loved to share with his family and friends.
Although he was characteristically modest about his community contributions, Nick worked quietly to improve his surroundings. He served on numerous charitable and educational boards, taking significant roles including being on the board at SUNY Binghamton. He was also a proud member of the American Legion. Nick particularly enjoyed sharing his professional expertise with St. Mary's Church, where his guidance supported vital community programs.
Nick is survived by his loving partner of 31 years, Elaine Colangelo, and her children: Jerry (Debra) Gross, Lynn (Doug) Berry, and Jim (Erin) Gross, and her grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved children: son Nick (Billie) Buccasio, son Michael Buccasio, and daughter Robin (Richard) Wade; his sisters, Verna Forte and Verona Kidder (Kenneth); and nieces and nephews Michele Forte (Gerard Moser), Kenneth Kidder (Heather), Scott Kidder, and Annette Bakalar (Robert). Additionally, he is survived by 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way), many cousins, and several lifelong friends.
Nick was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Antoinette; his son, Anthony D. Buccasio; brother-in-law Michael L. Forte; and the mother of his children, Evelyn Buccasio. Those who knew Nick will remember his quick wit, contagious laugh, and deep dedication to family. He found joy in watching classic movies, solving crossword puzzles, and caring for the many animals in his life, including his beloved dog, Molly. Nick's unwavering generosity, steadfast professional integrity, and deep devotion to family will live on through the countless lives he touched.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025, at St. Paul’s Church, with a Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m.
