Peter and Stephanie Cirba passed away unexpectedly and together on January 20, 2022. They were 81-year-old soulmates who enjoyed dancing and dining locally. If you met them, they were sure to leave a lasting impression on you.
Stephanie is survived by her son Elliott D. Reitz II; daughter Melissa V. (Jim) Schmidt; grandchildren Alexandrea Reitz, Jessica (Adam) Witbeck, Chelsea Schmidt; great-grandson Jonah Witbeck; and 2 generations of her Brazilian family whom she sponsored through ChildFund. Stephanie, originally from the Pittsburgh PA area, graduated from Clarion College with her BS degree and Slippery Rock University with her MS degree in Elementary Education. Stephanie was a respected educator in the Johnson City School District for 42 years and a volunteer at Vestal Hills Elementary School (AKA “Classy Grammy”), who made learning fun; when she walked in the room, children knew something good was about to happen. She was involved with The Johnson City Senior Center, Red-Hat Society, Parlor City Hat Club, Susqueanna Sweathearts, German Club, various spiritual groups, and was also a Master Gardener. Stephanie was a thrifty shopper, always wearing sparkly clothes or smiley-face earrings. She had positive encounters with everyone she met and loved to entertain her family and friends. It wasn’t a party without balloons or bubbles. At home she enjoyed watching Hallmark movies, Ancient Aliens, or making snowmen with her husband, Peter, of 30 years.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, John and Ruth Cirba, sister Jane and brother Lee Cirba. He is survived by his brother, Paul (Lois), sister Lucy (Don) Baker and sister-in-law Susan Cirba. Nieces and nephews: Jamey (Sara) Cirba, Jennifer (Emil) Vallio, Kim (Steve) Hope, Karen Vital, Sara (Chris) Frattone, John (Laura) Cirba, Melissa (Ray) Berube and many grand nieces and nephews. Peter loved baseball and played Little League and one year became MVP. He loved going on Big Game hunting trips and went on many safaris. He treasured his trophies which were displayed throughout his home. He was always a big car enthusiast. He enjoyed watching car racing and soon became a race car driver himself. He had a special car which he took great pride in and would display at car shows with pride. He was a Real Estate broker for over 50 years and his brother couldn't have asked for a better partner and the best big brother.
