Richard Bennett, 74, of Binghamton passed away in his loving wife Jo Ann’s arms on September 23, 2023. He is predeceased by mother Rosemary; father William Bennett; sisters Catherine Russell, Anita Svoboda, Mary Lou Bennett; brother Michael Bennett and Ronald Svoboda; parents in-law Edith and James Murray; and sister in-law Cheryl Stone.
He is survived by his wife Jo Ann Lee Bennett; son and daughter in-law Philip Bennett and Paola, and granddaughter Arabella Bennett; son and daughter-in-law Nicholas and Stephany Bennett; granddaughter Bellamira Jolee Bennett; brothers William Bennett, Jr., Dennis Bennett; sisters and brothers-in-law Lisa and Dennis O’Keefe, Susan and John Lane, Cindy and Dale Gitchell; sister-in-law Lynn Bennett; brother-in-law William Russell as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Rick retired from Hudson Distribution in a career of sales; created and oversaw St. Mary’s Youth Basketball program (CYO). He loved fishing, the beach, raising and training pigeons, telling stories, and loved most of all being with his friends and family and walking around the “neighborhood”. Rick was happily married for over 50 years and spent much of his life dedicated to his wife, kids, brothers and sisters. Rick was passionate about giving back, amongst other things, he volunteered at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, local sports programs and handed out potato chips to the community. His heartfelt contributions greatly impacted the community around him.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 8:30am to 10am at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Binghamton. A Memorial Mass will follow at 10am.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Danielle House, Mercy House of the Southern Tier or the Humane Society in Rick’s memory.
