Richard D. (Dick) Havich, 80, of Binghamton, N.Y., died Wednesday, July 3, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. He is survived by Janet (Wathier), his wife of nearly 61 years, and daughters, Michelle and Jennifer, as well as in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Jack.
He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., to Michael and Mary (Wilson) Havich, and grew up in Endicott, N.Y., where he attended Union Endicott High School (class of 1962), and went on to get an associate degree from SUNY Morrisville. He worked as an engineer with Universal Instruments in Binghamton for 41 years, retiring in 2006.
Dick enjoyed the outdoors, as an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved fishing on Oquaga Lake year-round and took annual deer hunting trips in the Catskills. Another passion was Binghamton hockey. Dick and Janet have been season ticket holders for every team since the Broome Dusters, up through the current Binghamton Black Bears team. Dick served on the boards of the team booster clubs and as president of the Binghamton Rangers Booster Club.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 11, from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m., followed by a service at 11:30am, at Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home, Inc. 137 Robinson St., Binghamton.
