Robert leaves behind four children, a daughter Theresa Johnson (Carl), three sons Robert F. Maroney Jr. (Lisa), Damian Maroney (Tina), Colin Maroney (Cindy) all of Binghamton. Robert is also survived by seven beautiful Grandchildren; Cody, Craig, Andrew, Jake, Justin, Kelsey, Colin Jr., and nine great-grandchildren; Moses, Lincoln, Leighton, Deacon, Santiago, Gideon, Mave, Jade, and Nicholas. They are what kept him smiling. They were truly the love of his life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a true loyal friend with an amazing personality and sense of humor. Robert was famous for his Irish exits whenever there was a gathering.
Poppy had a love for his pool that we all gathered at with many, many celebrations. He worked very hard to make sure his family and friends had an amazing place to have cook outs, parties and Fun. There was never a dull moment at the pool. Robert was a dedicated employee with New York State Office of Family Children’s Services Brace Residential Center. He worked with at risk youths who would come to call him “POP’s”. He taught them woodworking skills and built furniture. He taught them how to grow flowers and vegetables in the green house. He tried to help them make a positive change and see that they could have a successful happy life. Robert was an avid fisherman and loved to hunt. We would take several trips to Pops Hobby, Black Lake and numerous other locations where he thought we would catch a ton. Every trip was an adventure.
I would like to thank Kiki, Dee Dee, Billy, Heather, Clark, Kathy and Paulette for their dedication and love of our father. Also, several nieces and nephews and numerous friends. A special thank you to Mary Clapper who took time out to visit, bring ice cream and lotto scratch off tickets, and Mary Johnson who made frequent visits with delicious food in hand.
