Robert "Fitzy" Fitzgerald

It is with great sadness that we share Robert Fitzgerald, 85, passed away February 4, 2025, leaving behind unwavering devotion to his family and friends. Robert was predeceased by his son Scott Fitzgerald, his siblings Shirley Crowley, William Fitzgerald, Francis Fitzgerald, and his nephew Patrick Fitzgerald.
Robert is survived by his wife Donna (Cary) Fitzgerald, brother Jack and Cathy Fitzgerald, son Michael and daughter-in-law Janine Fitzgerald, Daughters Michele Charlier and Nancy Fitzgerald. He also leaves behind his greatest love, his grandchildren, Grace and Maggie Fitzgerald and Ryan Charlier.
Fitzy was born in Binghamton in 1939 and attended St. Paul’s School. After high school he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He married his sweetheart Donna Cary in 1965. He proudly joined the Binghamton Fire Department where he served from 1968 to 1993. Not a day passed that Fitzy would not share his Binghamton Fire Department stories. In his spare time he was a 50-year member of the A&G Sportsman’s Club and a 25-year member of the Southern Tier Horseshoe League.
Fitzy will be remembered for his sense of humor, funny stories, memorable sayings and most of all the love he had for his wife, children and grandchildren.
Funeral mass will be held Monday, February 10, 2025, at 10:00am at the Church of St. Paul, Binghamton, with private burial immediately following. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Mercy House of the Southern Tier.
