Ruth Jones Obituary

Ruth C. Jones, formerly of Kirkwood, NY, joined her husband Henry of 65 years in heaven on July 14th at the age of 90.

Ruth is predeceased by her parents Kurt and Gertrude Christophori.  Her in-laws, Evelyn (Russell) Lloyd, Mary (Joseph) O’Brien, and William Jones.

She is survived by her loving children and their spouses Brenda (Brad) Van Putten, Deborah (Anthony) Tokos, Eric (Michele) Jones.  Loving grandchildren Alison (fiance’ Charlie Finn) and Emily Jones, Claire and Sarah Van Putten, and Michael Tokos.  In-laws Douglas (Barbara) Jones, Lucille Jones, and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was born and raised in Binghamton, NY.  She’s a graduate of North High School where she met the love of her life and high school sweetheart Henry. Together for 73 years, they built a beautiful home in Kirkwood filled with love where they raised their family and created precious memories.

Ruth held different jobs in her life beginning in her teens as a page in the local public library.  She would go on to work at State Hospital in Binghamton as an accounting clerk and her most coveted job outside her home was working at Link Flight Simulation in Kirkwood, in technical publications.  However, while these jobs filled her interests outside of the home, Mom’s proudest accomplishment was her family.  She was a stay-at-home mom for many years, the toughest yet most rewarding job she experienced.  Mom gave us the foundation, in our formative years, that would carry us through our lives.  Her beautiful home was impeccably kept, where the grandchildren enjoyed grandma’s spoiling.  She, along with dad, modeled for us how we should navigate the care of our elders, and we appreciate this loving lesson.  In retirement, she enjoyed traveling across the USA with dad for his annual Naval reunions, reconnecting with special friends.  Mom enjoyed celebrating her grandchildren’s milestones and loved each of them with all of her heart.

When we were growing up, mom enjoyed baking cookies (the cookie jar was always full), ceramics, knitting warm mittens, and later she enjoyed cross stitching of doilies, dish cloths, baby quilts, and pillowcases, that we will treasure forever.  In her younger years, mom was a voracious reader, often getting in trouble for dropping seeds from the apples she was eating into the books she was enjoying.  Her joy of reading continued through her life and anything deemed important was shared with her children especially if it was health related!

Rest in peace mom.  We love you!
