Samuel E Shantillo, 73, of Johnson City, passed away unexpectedly on February 11th, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Sam is survived by his loving wife Rebecca, his daughter Nicole Gale (Morgan), his grandchildren Gage and Mia, his father, John Shantillo, siblings John Shantillo (Laura), Susan Tedeschi (Mike), his nieces and nephews Jennifer, Alicia, Desiree, Michael John, Danielle, Chandra, and goddaughter Morgan, as well as great nieces and nephews. Sam was also survived by his stepchildren: Becky Wolcott (Mark), Jason O'Connor (Kelly), Jennifer Connors (Brian), grandchildren Amanda, Loch, Alexis, Jake. Caitlin, Hannah, Hunter, Zachary, Allyson, Brody, Reilly, Jason, Maggie and Joseph, great grandchildren Olivia, Luke and Mara. He'll be greatly missed by his beloved dog Beau, AKA “shi*”zu, who never left his side.
Sam was predeceased by his devout and loving mother Betty Shantillo.
He had a love of cooking and baking, which was cultivated by his parents, which led to various professional positions in the food service industry for decades. After retirement, Sam's love of cooking and baking really intensified. He enjoyed making and sharing his family recipes with those he loved. It was his way of saying, “I love you.” Sam also had a passion for gardening, traveling, and spending summer days around his camp with his wife. Sam will be remembered for being kind, loving and patient, he'll be greatly missed by all who had the honor and privilege of knowing him.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to nurse Ashlee Hartman, UHS ICU for her kindness, support and care she showed to Sam and his family during this very difficult time.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 20th, at 6:00 PM at the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 137 Robinson St. Binghamton, NY. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, on Friday from 4:00 PM until the time of service.
