Severino Frank Sacco, 92, passed away in his home on October 10, 2022 in the loving arms of his wife of 59 years, Ann Marie.
Severino (“Sid”) was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Josephine, his mother and father-in-law, Pasqua and Luigi Nanni, sisters and brothers Antionette, Filomena, Tony, Orlando, Mario and Frank, in-laws Bruno (June) Nanni and Gino (Nikki) Nanni. He is survived by two siblings Michael Sacco and Rosalie Hawks, and very special in-laws Umberto (Ann Marie) Nanni and Arnold (Nancy) Nanni and Joan Sacco, as well as dozens of nieces and nephews. Sid shared a warm and beautiful marriage with Ann Marie that centered around their family, home and wonderful meals filled with laughter and love. They had three children together, Dr. Andrew Sacco (Staci), Dr. Teresa Sacco (Nick Chase) and David Sacco (Karen). The light of his life were his grandchildren Richie, Angelo, Marissa, Max, Ava, Jack, Sophia and Gia.
Sid was co-owner of Fratelli’s Bakery and then enjoyed a career as a draftsman, salesman and contractor for Sears Roebuck Co. before starting his own home improvement company, Community Home Remodeling. Sid enjoyed reading anything about stock markets and investing and enjoyed mathematics (without formal training). He could fix a car or build a house, mend a broken heart then turn around and discipline you if you needed it. He could make anyone laugh when you least expected it. Like all true Sacco’s he beamed with pride or swore at the New York Giants, depending on the games’ outcome. He made the most amazing homemade pizza (“hot pie”) and bread but preferred his wife’s cooking to anything you could buy at any price at any restaurant, anywhere. His place at the table is etched in our mind forever.
Born during the Great Depression, he never knew anything but hard work, and he was okay with that. His pride and joy were on display anytime a child or grandchild achieved a new milestone. He was immaterial and giving and family was all that mattered. No matter his financial position, he found a way to give to his church and to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, because to him, God and the well being of children came first.
The family would like to thank all of his caregivers and dear family friend Ann Marie Watkins who helped unselfishly.
A Funeral Mass will celebrated on Saturday at 9:30am from St. Mary of the Assumption Church, corner of Fayette and Court. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME 137 Robinson Street Binghamton on Friday from 3-6pm. In lieu of flowers please consider gifts to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org) or the Alzheimer’s Association.
