Steven Korenka Obituary

Our beloved brother Steve Korenka passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on April 30, 2021 at the age of 53. He is predeceased by his parents George and Mary (Buckley) Korenka. Steve is survived by his sisters Sonia (William) Abbott, Margo (Walt) Robinson; nieces Anastasia, Kendra (Stephen) Boyers and Marissa; uncle Tom (Cindy) Buckley; many loving cousins and special friends, including Al Nixon and Brendan Behonek.
To his friends, Steve, or sometimes better known as Dusty or Cheebo, always kept them laughing - intentional or not. He would fall down funny while chasing a baseball or football, and entertained them with his peculiar bowling antics and karaoke singing. Steve’s dry wit and quick commentary always kept his friends on their toes and in stitches.  He was also the one friend his best buddies could count on when they needed a heart to heart talk. He would listen with sincerity and help steer them in the right direction when needed. For his family, he put thoughtfulness in all the gifts he purchased and loved to send one without letting you know. No matter where life took him, he always put family first and rarely missed an important event or holiday gathering. He absolutely adored his nieces. He also liked to stir the pot with his family, giving his mother a run for her money. His middle name was used often.  He was an avid Yankee and Cowboy fan, loved playing baseball, golf and tennis, and never hesitated to take on a new adventure.  Steve graduated from Binghamton High School and University of Buffalo. He has worked at Broome County Parks and Rec., was a manager at many restaurants including Old Country Buffet and Crackle Barrel where he met many long time friends, and most recently was a salesman for Powerhome Solar, which he enjoyed tremendously until his untimely passing. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 11am until 1pm at the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME, INC.,137 Robinson St. Binghamton.
